Located about 10 kilometers from the city of Valencia, the natural park l’Albufera is one of the natural paradises of the Valencian Community.
Composed of three ecosystems, the Devesa, the lake and the rice fields that occupy a 70% of the surface. Probably the best known is the Lake, which currently has an area of aproximately 2,100
hectares.
Its name comes from the Arabic word, Albufaira, which would mean something like a small sea.
The original area would be around 30,000 hectares and the water was salty. At present its water comes from the filtrations of the rivers Júcar and Turia, so the salinity of the water is very low.
The Albufera was internationally recognized as a bird reserve, there are 372 species
Some 90 species nest in it.
In the same we can visit the observatory located in the Raco del’Olla, a magnificent place for
enjoy privileged views of the various species of birds.
Interestingly, another fact to highlight is the depth of the lake, which measures just a meter
average, and about three in the deepest parts.
To visit it you can only sail with traditional boats of little draught; that formerly
were used to fish in the lake and today make us admire some of the most beautiful
sunsets from all over the community.
